Bartleby Objects is a multi-disciplinary design studio, making objects of use for the home and individual.
Our work engages in a relationship to the body and responds to notions of desire, economy, and power.
We offer objects to make daily life a little sweeter, a little easier.
We view techniques to be expressions of culture, and therefore, combine historical and contemporary methods
to represent a wide range of expressions.
We consider our goods to be gender-neutral, with a strong advocacy for femininity.

Our products are made on an intimate scale - one at a time, by hand - in our Brooklyn studio by owner, designer, and primary maker, Mary L Chan.
Originally from Malaysia, Mary was raised in Hong Kong and Singapore, studied English Literature & Queer Theory in Scotland and New York, then Interior Design at Parsons in New York City. She established the umbrella project, Studio Bartleby, in 2006, which focused on the practice of interior, furniture, and textile design. Bartleby Objects, the label, was established in 2016.
